Atomic Girls 2024: successful activity that promotes science among young Chilean women

21 girls from different regions of the country participated in the third version of the workshop

What is Atomic Girls?

Niñas Atómicas is an initiative of the SAPHIR Millennium Institute that aims to prepare high school girls for their first years of college and foster their interest in science. The workshop involves building, testing, and analyzing data from a muon detector—muons are subatomic particles that come from space.

The application process for Atomic Girls has begun!

We have already kicked off the third version of the Atomic Girls program, an initiative designed to empower girls and spark their interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Fran, Founder of Las Niñas Atómicas at Rock and Pop

Francisca Garay, who founded the Niñas Atómicas Program alongside Giovanna Cottin, spoke about science and the Niñas Atómicas on the show *Un País Generoso*; here is her interview.

The 2022 mentors invite you to join the workshop!

The tutors begin their training

Five physics, astronomy and astrophysics students have already begun training to become Atomic Girls tutors. In the workshop, they will teach high school students how to detect muons in their homes and schools.
