Schools

Schools | SAPHIR Millennium Institute

SAPHIR promotes and actively participates in national and international science schools focused on advanced training in particle physics, scientific computing, data analysis, and related technologies. These schools are designed for undergraduate and graduate students as well as early-career researchers, and combine lectures, hands-on sessions, and academic exchange activities.

Through these initiatives, the institute promotes knowledge exchange, strengthens scientific networks, and integrates the SAPHIR community into high-quality educational programs.

INTERNATIONAL SCHOOLS

CERN School of Computing (CSC)

Founded in 1970, the CERN School of Computing is one of the world's most prestigious training programs in scientific computing. Its mission is to foster a shared computing culture among scientists and engineers involved in major international research projects.

The Latin America 2026 edition was held for the first time in South America, taking place in Santiago, Chile, and was jointly organized by CERN, the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, and the SAPHIR Millennium Institute. The school offers advanced training in software engineering, computer architectures, data technologies, artificial intelligence, and scientific computing applied to research.

CERN–Latin American School of High-Energy Physics (CLASHEP)

The CERN–Latin American School of High-Energy Physics (CLASHEP) is an international school for graduate students and young researchers from Latin America. Its goal is to provide comprehensive training in experimental and theoretical particle physics, including the Standard Model, Higgs physics, neutrino physics, cosmology, instrumentation, and experimental techniques used in large particle accelerators.

High Energy Physics School (HEP School)

HEP schools bring together students and young researchers interested in high-energy physics, providing theoretical and experimental tools to understand the field’s current challenges. These events facilitate interaction with internationally renowned scientists and foster the creation of academic collaboration networks.

STEAM Academy

The STEAM Academy is an educational initiative launched by SAPHIR aimed at strengthening students’ and young talents’ skills in science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. Through hands-on workshops, interdisciplinary activities, and experiences linked to real-world scientific research, the academy seeks to inspire new scientific vocations and introduce future generations to the challenges of cutting-edge science.

These schools and programs represent one of the main tools for developing advanced human capital promoted by SAPHIR, helping to connect Chile with major international networks for research and technological development.
